Throwback to the First SourceCon Europe
epunkt and Talentor Represented Austria in Budapest
The very first European SourceCon took place 12 – 13 June 2018. epunkt and Talentor were in Budapest, not just as participants, but also on stage! Michaela Moser, epunkt Head of Sourcing, gave a talk. The conference showed that sourcing does not carry the same weight in Austria as in other countries. Aside from the large epunkt/Talentor delegation (10 experts!), only one other sourcer was there from Austria.
Because sourcing is not as well known in Austria as in other countries, there are a lot of questions to answer with regard to SourceCon Europe and sourcing in general. At the end of this post we’ll reveal what Michaela Moser shared in her talk along with three helpful tips for building your own sourcing team.
What Is SourceCon?
The who’s who of international sourcing experts get together at SourceCon Europe. Unlike many other conferences, SourceCon gives the international sourcing community plenty of room to network in a relaxed atmosphere: dress code t-shirt!
Furthermore, numerous round tables provided a setting for lively discussions about active sourcing. There was even a hackathon and an innovation lab. The hackathon was a favorite amongst the epunkt and Talentor delegation, showing how our own sourcing strategy absolutely measures up to the international best in terms of innovation and quality.
Who Is at SourceCon?
SourceCon 2018 welcomed 330 visitors to Budapest. Among them were 22 speakers, including Michaela Moser, epunkt’s Head of Sourcing. Speaking of epunkt: Talentor Austria and epunkt sent a delegation of 10 team members, who met up with 4 colleagues from other Talentor partner countries.
The speakers included sourcing luminaries like Shannon Pritchett, Maisha Cannon, Shane McCusker, Guillaume Alexandre, Jonny Campbell, Katrina Collier, Jim Stroud, Mark Lundgren, Balazs Paroczay and Jan Tegze.
What Else Is There to Know about SourceCon?
The SourceCon mascot is the purple squirrel. Like the specialised candidates sourcing finds in the age of the skilled-labour shortage, purple squirrels are hard to find.
Michaela Moser at the First SourceCon Europe
Speaking of hard-to-find candidates, Michaela Moser and her team are on the case every day. One the first day of the first SourceCon in Europe, Michaela shared "10 Things I wish I'd Known before Building a Sourcing Team from Scratch” during her session.
A key point of Michael’s session: active sourcing is more than just looking for candidates. It also involves teaching colleagues and clients what sourcing is, building relationships, and finding the right KPIs.

SourceCon Europe 2019
Sourcing remains an interesting topic. Austria has a lot of room to grow when it comes to awareness of active sourcing. The first European SourceCon shows the increasing significance of this topic. Next year, SourceCon Europe will take place in the Netherlands.
